Out with the Old, In With the New

Socrates said, "The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, NOT on fighting the old, but on building the new."

I love this quote, because I believe it speaks to so many of us who fight change. Why don’t we put our energy and focus on building the new?

Simply, because it’s hard.

Not all change is necessary of course, though we have to be willing to embrace change in order to continue to keep growing and live a life we love.

This applies a lot to our career which makes up for a lot for our time, therefore it’s important that we land a job we enjoy and be happy at work, oppose to just live for the weekend. We all know people who have worked for the same employer their whole career. Chances are, they stopped chasing their dream job, and settled for a comfortable job.

Get started! This is an important step, where you prepare yourself and your resume for the job search ahead. Read “My Top 15 Resume Writing Tips” for how to refresh your resume.

It is also important to plan to realize your career dreams, because it’s not enough to dream. Anybody could dream, but only a few people know how to turn their dreams into reality. It is important we know ourselves fully, and we understand both our strengths and weaknesses.

Reach out to experts! The more you try to learn and look for answers, the more likely it is that you will find someone you who can help you. By reaching out to experts you get to learn so much yourself. There is no better feeling than finding out new information!

It is important to see from perspective of future employers, too.

Employment is a two-way street in which both employers and employees need to benefit from each other. Employers need to find solutions to their problems and ways to contribute to the overall success of the company, while employees need to think of how well they could provide value to the firm and how well their skills could be used by the company in which they wish to seek their dream career.

Sell your skills effectively.

In today’s world, companies operate in highly competitive markets, and it is our duty to pursue our dream career by effectively selling our skills that could attract the employers we want. It’s important to not sell yourself short since this could not make a positive impression on the employer.

There are so many reasons for seeking your dream job, including growth prospects and job satisfaction. It’s also important to consider that your dream job may change over time, and that’s okay.

Just remember, pursuing your dream job is not easy and you should not be in a rush. Prepare yourself over several years and make sure you are doing the right things for when the opportunity arrises. Jobs are always going to be there for you for when your time comes, so gain some experience and never give up.
